THOS. JENSEN DIES SUDDENLY.
The older residents of El Reno were greatly shocked last Saturday when the news of the sudden death of Thomas Jenson was telephoned over the city.
While Mr. Jensen had been complaining for the past two days, none of the family or friends thought of his illness being of a serious nature. Friday he did not come to his place of business, but remained at home and took treatment for bowel trouble.
Early in the morning he walked out upon his porch and was taken with a congestive chill, but had strength enough to return to his bed. Dr. Taylor, the family physician, was hurriedly called, but could do nothing to prolong life, so Mr. Jensen passed away about 9 o’clock.
Thomas Jensen was a prominent real estate dealer of this city and was well and favorably known by nearly every one in this part of the territory, having removed here from Nebraska at the opening of the country.
He was a native of Germany, but when a young man he came from the Old Country to Iowa, where he lived many years before removing to Nebraska, from whence he came to Oklahoma.
Because of his activity in the real estate and loan business he familiarized himself with this country and its people, and perhaps no man in El Reno possessed greater or more accurate knowledge along these lines than did Mr. Jensen. He will be missed in all business circles.
Deceased leaves a widow and five children, three sons and two daughters all grown except Harry, aged 12, the only one at home at the time of his father’s death. The other children are: Mrs. Horace Humphreys of Kingfisher, Okla.; Mrs. Henry Hicks of Garrison, Neb.; Frank Jensen of Fort Worth, Texas; Thomas Jensen of Chickasha, Okla., and Harry, the youngest who is at home. All have been telegraphed to and are expected as soon as they can make the trip.
Thomas Jensen was in his 55th year, and was judged as one of the most robust men in El Reno, therefore it is no wonder his friends and neighbors were surprised and shocked to learn of his demise.
He was a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges. Under the direction of the former, the funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at four o’clock, and the body was buried in the El Reno cemetery, followed to the grave by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
